“…Moreover, effects of TAM are seriously decreased in female quail gonads by simultaneous treatment with estrogens as illustrated in Fig. 1 c. Masculinization and intersexuality of the female gonad have been obtained with testicular grafts [48]. In the female hosts, a left ovary or ovotestis and a right atrophic testis and in some cases bilateral atrophic testes were observed.…”

“…Few (Benhaim et al, 1982). Other investigators (Jost et al, 1972 ;Vigier et al, 1977 ;Stoll et al, 1980 ;Rashedi et al, 1983), struck by the similar timing of ovarian lesions and Mullerian regression, have proposed that both are mediated by the same substance, namely AMH. Using AMH purified by immunochromatography on a monoclonal antibody (Picard and Josso, 1984), we are now in a position to confirm this hypothesis.…”

“…Moreover, when our organ cultures were prolonged to a total in ovo and in vitro age of 22-24 days, it was possible to establish the onset of the meiotic prophase in the genetically male germ cells of the induced cortex. A similar phenomenon has also been observed by us (Jordanov and Angelova, 1979) (Jordanov andAngelova, 1974, 1979) or where testes were implanted early in female embryos (Stoll et al, 1978(Stoll et al, , 1980 (Angelova, Jordanov and Kanchev, 1983) demonstrated that chick gonads pretreated in culture with testosterone and having acquired signs of masculinization, enhanced their endogenous production of testosterone above that of estradiol, the T/E 2 ratio being raised above 1, as in a testis. A reverse phenomenon was reported by other researchers (Haffen and C6dard, 1968 ;Teng and Teng, 1977) (Weniger, 1961 ;Grassi-Milano and Pitini, 1977) (Jordanov and Angelova, 1979).…”
