Para estas espécies foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfi ca, buscando estudos sobre sua constituição química e atividade farmacológica. Para todas as espécies foram encontrados dados químicos e para nove delas dados de atividade farmacológica. Foram encontrados estudos clínicos para quatro espécies e usos terapêuticos aprovados por organismos internacionais para três espécies. Efeitos adversos foram encontrados, na literatura, para cinco das dez espécies pesquisadas e para seis destas, o uso durante a gestação é desaconselhado.Unitermos: Etnobotânica, plantas medicinais, farmacologia.ABSTRACT: "Chemical and pharmacologic data on medicinal plants used by the community of the Ponta Grossa neighborhood, Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil". The ten most important species among all plants used as medicinal by the residents and Communitary Agents of Health from the Family Health Offi ce of Ponta Grossa neighborhood, Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil were selected. A bibliographical review for these species was accomplished, fi nding studies about the chemical constitution for all species and some pharmacologic activity for nine of them. Clinical studies for four species and therapeutic uses approved by international organisms for three species were found. It was verifi ed that according to the literature, adverse effects for fi ve of the ten researched species and for six of these the use is dissuaded during the gestation.Keywords: Ethnobotany, medicinal plants, pharmacology. INTRODUÇÃONo Brasil, a possibilidade de implementação da fi toterapia no sistema público de saúde vem sendo considerada desde 1988 (CIPLAN) e faz parte das diretrizes da I Conferência Nacional de Assistência Farmacêutica (CNMAF, 2003). A partir de então, várias inicativas pontuais para estabelecer a fi toterapia na rede pública de sáude vêm ocorrendo, com destaque para o Programa de Fitoterapia do Ceará, alicerçado no Projeto Farmácias Vivas, idealizado pelo Prof. Francisco José de Abreu Matos (Matos et al., 2001). No entanto, para a maioria das plantas nativas não existem estudos científi cos e o uso no Brasil é baseado principalmente na tradicionalidade. A OMS reconhece a importância do uso tradicional, mas para a utilização de uma planta com fi nalidade terapêutica, em nível de saúde pública, é fundamental o estabelecimento de sua segurança, efi cácia e garantia de qualidade das preparações (Lapa et al., 2003; WHO, 2002;Rates, 2001). O uso inadequado destes recursos terapêuticos pode originar efeitos adversos retardados e/ou assintomáticos, interações medicamentosas ainda não estudadas e difi cilmente reconhecidas, além de retardar o diagnóstico e tratamento apropriado (Cañigueral; Vila, 2003;Rates, 2001). ÖzetBitkisel ilaçlar, geleneksel ilaçlar ile hayal kırıklığının bir sonucu olarak dünya genelinde giderek daha popüler hale gelmektedir. Toplum onları genellikle zararsız olarak kabul etmektedir. Ancak bu ürünler veya bunların metabolitleri karaciğer hasarı gibi bazı yan etkilere neden olabilir. Bu çalışmada bitkisel çay içimine bağ-lı akut hepatit gelişen iki hasta sunulmuştur. Yirmi altı ve otuz yaşında iki kadın; mide bulantısı, kusma, iştahsızlık ve halsizlik şikâyeti ile kliniğimize başvurdu. Serum alanin aminotransferaz ve aspartat aminotransferaz düzeyleri artmıştı. Viral hepatit ve otoimmün hastalıklar için tüm serolojik testleri negatif bulundu. Onlar süt yapımını artırmak için üç dört hafta boyunca her gün rezene ve kimyon içeren bir bitkisel çay içmişlerdi. Bitkisel çayın kesilmesinden dört-beş hafta sonra karaciğer enzimleri normale döndü. Bizim bilgimize göre bu muhtemelen, rezene ve kimyon içeren bir bitki çayı kullanımı ile ilgili ilk hepatit rapordur. Bu çalışma, rezene ve kimyon içeren bitkisel çayın akut hepatitin diğer nedenleri ile klinik olarak karışabilen hepatotoksisiteye sebep olabileceğini göstermektedir. Klinisyenler kolayca tanısı konulamayan akut hepatit olgusu ile karşı karşıya kalabilirler ve bitkisel ilaç kullanımı konusunda hastayı sorgulamaları gerekmektedir. Anahtar KelimelerHepatotoksisite; Bitkisel Çay; Rezene; Kimyon Abstract Herbal remedies have become increasingly popular throughout the globe as a result of disappointment with conventional medicines. The public often regards them as harmless. However, some of these products or their metabolites can cause adverse effects such as liver damage. In this study, two patients who developed acute hepatitis due to consuming herbal tea are presented. Twenty-six and thirty-year-old two women were admitted to our department with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, anorexia and weakness. Serum alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase levels were increased; all serological tests for viral hepatitis and autoimmune disorders were negative. They had consumed an herbal tea containing fennel and cumin to increase lactation everyday for three-four weeks. Discontinuation of the herbal tea resulted in normalization of liver enzymes four-five weeks later. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of hepatitis possibly related to use of an herbal tea containing fennel and cumin. This study suggests that herbal tea containing fennel and cumin can cause hepatotoxicity, which could be clinically confused with other causes of acute hepatitis. Clinicians may face with a case of acute hepatitis that is not readily diagnosed, and should question patients about herbal remedy use.
