Mn2f has been reported to be essential for sporulation of bacilli (Charney, Fisher & Hegarty, 1951) as has Mg2+ (Tallentire & Chiori, 1963). Mg2+ has also been implicated in determining the heat resistance of spores of B. naegateriurn (Tallentire & Chiori, 1963), and is present in Ellner's medium (1956). The peptone used by d'Aubert was replaced by Trypticase (BBL) at the same concentration, which in our experience supports better growth of most clostridia than do commercially available dehydrated peptones.…”
