Health benefits of resveratrol administration

Abstract: Resveratrol is a polyphenol which is abundant in grape skin and seeds. Sources of resveratrol in food also include wine, berries, and peanuts. This compound displays many properties including activity against glycation, oxidative stress, inflammation, neurodegeneration, several types of cancer, as well as aging. Due to the fact that resveratrol is generally well-tolerated, it is believed to be a promising compound in preventing many diseases such as diabetes and associated complications. Unfortunately, this co… Show more

“…RSV belongs to a stilbene class of polyphonic compounds, commonly found in grapes, berries, peanuts, and other plant foods. During the past two decades, RSV has been widely studied and associated with many potential health benefits [48,49]. RSV has been shown to promote endurance performance in mice [19][20][21] and exercise-induced cellular and functional adaptions of skeletal muscle in elderly people [22].…”

“…Notwithstanding the substantial number of human and animal studies that support the beneficial and protective properties of RE [60,181,[219][220][221][222], there are not enough clinical studies that report on RE's harmful effects, which are indeed full of controversy. Moreover, the molecular mechanism of RE action needs to be better identified.…”

“…Peanuts are among the few plant species that produce resveratrol (Lanz et al, 1990;Sobolev and Cole, 1999;Arora and Japlan, 2018). This phenolic compound is a potent antioxidant (Frankel et al, 1993) whose healing and preventive potential for many human diseases were described in some recent reviews (Colica et al, 2018;Galiniak et al, 2019). Resveratrol is also a phytoalexin that has been associated with resistance to major peanut diseases (Sobolev et al, 2007).…”
