Hazard degree assessment of landslide using set pair analysis method

Abstract: It is a critical issue to assess landslide hazard degree in the risk analysis of mountain geo-hazards. Currently, different kinds of approaches to assess landslide hazard degree are developed and utilized from single quantitative analysis to integrated quantitative analysis. However, several problems of these approaches impede further applications. These problems include (1) the methods are complex and mathematic background is required sometimes; (2) the methods are hard to utilize. This study comes up with a … Show more

“…Identity, discrepancy, and contradistinction were used to describe objects and their relations to each other (Wang and Li 2012). The set pair meant a pair consisting of two sets wherein the two sets had certain and uncertain relations.…”

“…Another hazard assessment method that is simple in concept and easily applied is called set pair analysis (SPA) (Wang and Li 2012). SPA is a systematic analysis method to deal with uncertain problems as well as being an uncertainty theory to integrate certainty and uncertainty (Zhao 1994;Zhao 2000;Zou et al 2013).…”

“…Certainty and uncertainty can be taken into consideration as a whole and be treated dialectically during the process of SPA. The connection number, a basic idea of SPA theory, was described to depict the relation of a set pair made up by two sets [33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40]. And the corresponding function of the connection number can be written as…”

“…Following Zhao (2000), SPA has seen widespread applications in mathematics, physics, information science, economy, resource assessment, and environmental science. In the context of hydrology and environmental science, SPA has been used for urban ecosystem health assessment (Su et al, 2009), water resources system assessment (Wang et al, 2009), river health evaluation (Xu et al, 2011), landslide hazard degree assessment (Wang and Li, 2012), selection of a reference basin in ungauged regions (Wang et al, 2013), risk assessment and forewarning for regional water resources (Zhao et al, 2013), evaluation of drought index at multi-time scales , water resources trends (Feng et al, 2014), river basin resource compensation characteristics (Chen et al, 2014), river eco-system assessment and restoration (Jiang et al 2015), waterlog disaster risk evaluation (Jin et al, 2015), and sustainability assessment of a water resources system (Du et al 2015).…”
