Economic Rationality of Residents Living in the Area Prone to Merapi Volcanic Disaster

The research concerned here was to know the economic rationality of residents who dwelled again in their former village after the eruption of Mount Merapi in 2010 and refused to be relocated by the government. A combined research method, namely, a combination between a qualitative method and a quantitative one, was used to uncover the rationality. The qualitative part of the research was conducted first by deciding informants considered knowledgeable about the matter under research. Then the informants were interviewed in turns decided via snowball sampling. Some secondary data were used to support the qualitative research. As for the quantitative part of the research, it was conducted afterwards by turning members of the households in the village into respondents. The finding of the research is as follows. The residents perceive the disaster not only as a dangerous natural phenomenon but also as an economic blessing because tourists' visits to the areas suffering from the impact of the disaster enable residents to have activities that have economic value. That economic rationality was what motivated them to return to their village though its condition is categorized by the government as unfit for dwelling.

Makbule CİVELEK ORUÇ 2 ÖzetÇalışma Sinop Cezaevinin müzeye dönüşüm sürecini ve bu sürece dâhil olan paydaşların rolünü ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Sinop Cezaevi çalışmanın konusunu oluşturmaktadır. Müzeye dönüştürülme sürecinin diğer illere uygulanabilirliği ve örnek teşkil etmesi açısından önem taşımaktadır. Araştırma yöntemi olarak mülakat tekniği kullanılmıştır. Yarı yapılandırılmış sorular aracılığıyla uzman kişinin görüş ve önerilerine yer verilmiştir. Mülakat 15.07.2015 tarihinde Sinop Kültür ve Turizm İl Müdürü ile gerçekleşmiş olup yaklaşık olarak 50 dakika sürmüştür. Görüşme esnasında ses kaydı alınarak güvenilirlik sağlanmıştır. Ayrıca ses kaydı doğrultusundaki veriler metne dönüştürülerek çalışmanın amacına göre şekillendirilmiştir.Alternatif turizm türleri bakımından zengin olan Sinop, hüzün turizmi açısından Sinop Cezaevi ile ön plana çıkmaktadır. Yapılması planlanan projeler aracılığıyla kültür kompleksi oluşturulacaktır. Bu amaçla çeşitli paydaşlarla beraber, örnek alınan projeler ve yerel halkın önerileri doğrultusunda hareket edilmiştir. Bu proje ile mevcut ziyaretçi sayısının yaklaşık iki kat artması beklenmektedir. Projenin diğer illerde de uygulanabilir olması amacıyla ulaşılabilir bir nitelik taşıması gereklidir. Hüzün turizmi kapsamında dünyada yapılan uygulamalar takip edilmeli, finansal kaynaklar aracılığıyla gerçekleştirilmelidir. Yapılan çalışmaların tarihsel ve kültürel dokuyu zedelemeyecek boyutta olmasına dikkat edilmelidir. The Examination of Touristic Places Located in Chaotic Environments in the Scope of Dark Tourism the Example Of Prison Of Sinop AbstractIt aims at presenting the process of transformation of the Prison of Sinop into a museum and the roles of the shareholders taking part in this process. The Prison of Sinop is the subject of the study. It is of capital importance because of the feasibility of the transformation process and serving as an example for other cities. Interview method is used as the research method. Opinions and suggestions of the competent individuals are included through semi-structured questions. The interview took place on 15.07.2015 with Sinop Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism and lasted for about 50 minutes. The credibility is ensured by voice recording. Furthermore, the data of the voice record is turned into text and formed according to the purpose of the study.Sinop, which is rich in alternative tourism types, rises to prominence with Prison of Sinop in terms of dark tourism. A cultural complex is going to be constituted through the planned projects. To that end, actions are taken with different shareholders in the directions of the modeled projects and the recommendations of the locals.
