The research concerned here was to know the economic rationality of residents who dwelled again in their former village after the eruption of Mount Merapi in 2010 and refused to be relocated by the government. A combined research method, namely, a combination between a qualitative method and a quantitative one, was used to uncover the rationality. The qualitative part of the research was conducted first by deciding informants considered knowledgeable about the matter under research. Then the informants were interviewed in turns decided via snowball sampling. Some secondary data were used to support the qualitative research. As for the quantitative part of the research, it was conducted afterwards by turning members of the households in the village into respondents. The finding of the research is as follows. The residents perceive the disaster not only as a dangerous natural phenomenon but also as an economic blessing because tourists' visits to the areas suffering from the impact of the disaster enable residents to have activities that have economic value. That economic rationality was what motivated them to return to their village though its condition is categorized by the government as unfit for dwelling.
Early in February 2022, the Russian fighter fleet appeared on the Ukrainian border more specifically, in Belarus and the confrontation between Russia and Ukraine erupted once more. Given that these two nations are important producers and exporters of a variety of commodities, the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on the global economy is substantial. In international trade, Russia and Ukraine play key roles. Of course, this conflict also has an impact on Indonesia as a member of the world economy. It is expected that this battle may affect trade between Indonesia and the two nations because CPO and its derivatives, Indonesia's principal exports, are exchanged between them. Additionally, it is anticipated that the supply of wheat flour imported by Indonesia from Ukraine will be interrupted. By gathering, choosing, and reviewing facts, opinions, and information from books, journals, magazines, newspapers, and the internet, this study employs a literature review. The theory applied is Ralf Dahrendrof's conflict theory, which considers conflict as involving three main categories of organizations: conflict groups, interest groups, and pseudo groups. A collection of individuals who have positions and share similar role interests is referred to as a pseudo group. In the sociological sense, interest groups are groupings, and they are the actual causes of intergroup conflict. The main objective of this study is to determine how much the political and economic situation in Indonesia has been impacted by Russia and Ukraine. The result is that Indonesia has been impacted by the war in the political and economic spheres between Russia and Ukraine. The unpredictability of the trade balance had a considerable economic impact, particularly on the oil and gas and non-oil and gas industries. Additionally, because Russia is one of the biggest oil suppliers in the world, it is feared that domestic oil prices may rise. Indonesia must adhere to the political principle of being independent and proactive in its response to the turmoil in Ukraine.
The Muslim's belief in the fulfillment of prayers that were offered in the holy land, the temple, and the great Mosque of the Prophet Muhammad became one of the factors that motivates Muslims to carry out the pilgrimage. This study aims to show the realization of the power of prayer for Muslims after the hajj. This qualitative study interviewed two pilgrims in 2018 who were motivated to perform the pilgrimage in addition to worship and also to fulfill their life expectation. Secondary data was used to complete the information needed in this study. The results showed that there were two realizations of prayer that were carried out during the hajj, firstly, the direct prayer which was answered quickly as desired and secondly, the unanswered prayers that characterized by uncertainty in what time the prayer will be answered by God. Although there were differences in the realization of prayer, but there were similarities in terms of faith, devotion, and sincerity that is improved after the pilgrimage. Quality of life is a positive impact after Hajj.
This paper aims to describe the efforts of community resilience in the eruption-prone area of Mount Merapi, Yogyakarta Special Region, Indonesia. A qualitative method was employed through interviews and observations to collect the data from participants selected through a snowball sampling technique. The secondary data were also used to support the information needed. The findings of this study suggest that the community attempts to anticipate various disaster risks by building disaster relief houses in which long-standing social relationships have existed among the people, and by intensively cultivating their land such as planting trees. The residents living in the eruptionprone area of Mount Merapi also continuously carry out technical and ecological actions passed down from generation to generation.
