Grid Current Feedback Active Damping Control Based on Disturbance Observer for Battery Energy Storage Power Conversion System with LCL Filter

Abstract: Adopting the battery energy storage system is an effective way to compensate the continuously growing fluctuating power generated by renewable sources. The power conversion system is considered as one of the core equipment used for interfacing battery packs to the grid in a battery energy storage system. This paper aims to apply an improved active damping control to a grid-tied power conversion system with LCL filter to attenuate its inherent resonance characteristics. The anti-interference ability is enhanced… Show more

“…Under ideal grid conditions, the control of the LCL-type PCS is relatively mature, and the output power quality can be significantly improved by adjusting the PI parameters (Gao et al, 2021) or improving the current controller (Errouissi and Al-Durra, 2018) by reasonable methods. However, in the actual operation, the microgrid often has non-ideal phenomena such as grid voltage unbalance and harmonic pollution.…”

“…Summing up the literature review, it should be said that there are many studies on the use of BESSs to implement the peak shaving strategy. The vast majority of works devoted to peak shaving concern power compensation in the operating conditions of an autonomous energy storage device, operating to eliminate distribution network constraints [38] and temporary overloads of network elements [39]. The paper [40] presents the capacity market mechanisms operating in Germany that can use energy storage at the level of transmission and distribution networks.…”

“…However, it causes a resonance hazard. One solution to this issue is applying the active damping method [16,23,33]. The literature [16] presents the combination of using a current controller based on PR units with phase compensation along with the inverter-side current feedback active damping to attenuate the LCL resonance peak.…”
