Since employing environmentally friendly technologies (EFTs) is a complicated and difficult process that is affected by multiple factors, researchers are encouraged to explore those influence factors. This research aims to estimate the households’ perception factors affecting the adoption intentions of EFTs. Based on a questionnaire survey from 782 Pakistani households, a structural equation modeling strategy yields empirical results. The main findings are: firstly, the drivers of adoption intention of EFTs include technological awareness, perceived environmental importance, perceived behavioral control, and perceived benefits. Secondly, significant barriers to the adoption intention of EFTs involve the perceived cost of EFTs and the perceived risk-averse behavior of households. Thirdly, among all factors, perceived environmental importance reveals the most substantial contribution, whereas perceived risk-averse behavior shows the least contribution to the adoption intention of EFTs. Finally, given these results, strengthening the financial benefits, controlling the roaring cost of EFTs, and the provision of rebates and subsidization are suggested to upscale the adoption intention of EFTs by the households.

The carbon emissions of the construction industry pose a significant challenge to implementing China’s carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals. This study considered how to promote stable green building (GB) development. First, evolutionary game theory (EGT) was applied to examine the interaction mechanism of complex behaviors between governments and developers, constructing two scenarios of static and dynamic subsidies. Second, we proposed the ideal state where the government does not give funding subsidies and developers take the initiative to build GBs. On this basis, the simulation method was used to verify the game models and primary conclusions. Finally, a detailed sensitivity analysis of selected parameters was undertaken. The results demonstrated that subsidy policy phase-outs could help in the development of GBs; the probability of an ideal state was positively correlated with government supervision and punishment, and it was negatively correlated with government funding subsidies. The research results can be used as a reference for the government to improve incentive measures and decision support for stakeholders to adjust their strategies.

The concept of green building plays an important role in carbon emission reduction. This paper focuses on the energy conservation in the building operational phase to assess the carbon emission reduction potential of several major green building technologies. Energy use intensity is simulated using EnergyPlus with prototypical models of various green building scenarios for office buildings and hotels in Shanghai and Harbin. The carbon emission factor is calculated according to the energy structure in the building sector in China. Results shows that passive technologies such as daylighting and natural ventilation can bring significant reductions in carbon emissions followed by retrofitting of building envelopes and energy efficiency improvement of HVAC equipment. Covering all green building technologies considered, the total operational carbon emission reduction rate can reach nearly 19% for office buildings and 25% for hotels.
