Government roles in implementing building information modelling systems

Abstract: PurposeBuilding information modelling (BIM) is a paradigm shift in the architectural, engineering and construction industries which transforms processes to achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the implementation of BIM in Hong Kong and the USA and recommend strategies for BIM implementation in Hong Kong.Design/methodology/approachA literature review of BIM initiatives taken in Hong Kong and the USA was conducted including the government policy, guidelines, sta… Show more

“…Taylor and Bernstein [8] explored four paradigms of BIM implementation at the firm level: visualization, coordination, analysis and supply chain integration. With firm's increasing project experience, these paradigms evolve along a trajectory from visualization, to coordination, to analysis and finally to supply chain integration [7]. So, better knowledge about BIM implementation won't be achieved either if AEC actor or firm in Indonesia never try to implement it properly.…”

“…According to the literature review BIM driven factors are summarized in Table 2 [35], New Zealand and Australia: [36]. Therefore, the table was tabulated based on the 5 sub theme: Policy, Engagement, Investment, Implementation, and Education were identified within the 16 references cited by this paper.…”
