Maximum power point tracker in a photovoltaic system allows to maximize the energy drawn from the connected photovoltaic modules. In the partial shade conditions there can be more than one maximum point in photovoltaic output power curve. The solution for this situation is a maximum power point tracker algorithm, which finds the global maximum. In literature, there is a large number of studies on maximum power point trackers. Therefore designers are drowning in a sea of knowledge. This study eliminates similar studies and classified them into groups, and at the end of the study a comparison table is given to guide the designers in the performance information of the selected studies. This study aims to guide the designers to make a sensible selection of a maximum power point tracker algorithm for partial shade conditions.

Abstract-In most large-scale grid-tied photovoltaic (PV) plants, central inverter configurations are used, mainly due to higher converter efficiency and lower cost per kW . However, compared to other configurations, its Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) efficiency is the lowest since it is the less distributed configuration. Under non-uniform conditions, as mismatch caused by aging and/or partial shading, several local maxima may arise in the PV curve, hence requiring additional actions to maximize the output power of the PV plant. Moreover, tighter grid codes have appeared, requiring for PV systems to limit power fluctuations. This paper presents an alternative to perform Global MPPT (GMPPT) while complying with stiffer grid code limitations. The proposed alternative adds an Energy Storage System (ESS) at inverter level, consisting of an ultracapacitor (UC) bank connected to the DC-link of a PV central inverter through interleaved DC-DC power converters. The proposed configuration is preliminary validated through simulations and tested under extreme conditions. The performance of the system is analyzed and compared to other existing solutions.

Power extension of grid to isolated regions is associated with technical and economical issues. It has encouraged exploration and exploitation of decentralized power generation using renewable energy sources (RES). RES based power generation involves uncertain availability of power source round the clock. This problem has been overcome to certain extent by installing appropriate integrated energy storage unit (ESU). This paper presents technical review of hybrid wind and photovoltaic (PV) generation in standalone mode. Associated components like converters, storage unit, controllers, and optimization techniques affect overall generation. Wind and PV energy are readily available, omnipresent, and expected to contribute major future energy market. It can serve to overcome global warming problem arising due to emissions in fossil fuel based thermal generation units. This paper includes the study of progressive development of standalone renewable generation units based on wind and PV microgrids.
