Global Landscape of Native Protein Complexes inSynechocystissp. PCC 6803

Abstract: Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 is a model organism for studying photosynthesis, energy metabolism, and environmental stress. Though known as the first fully sequenced phototrophic organism, Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 still has almost half of its proteome without functional annotations. In this study, we obtained 291 protein complexes, including 24,092 protein-protein interactions (PPIs) among 2,062 proteins by using co-fractionation and LC/MS/MS. The additional level of PPIs information not only revealed the roles… Show more

“…While there are reports on the composition of protein complexes (Xu et al, 2020) and the association of these complexes with the thylakoid or cell membrane systems in the model Synechocystis (Baers et al, 2019), no information on RNA/protein complexes is currently available for any cyanobacterium. Here, we report the results of Grad-seq analysis applied to Synechocystis, identifying the sedimentation profiles of thousands of transcripts and proteins simultaneously.…”

“…Network modularity analysis-such as used to identify protein complexes in protein-protein interaction network [42][43][44][45][46][47] , for instance-represents an effective mean to identify subset of drugs (modules) presenting high intra-module and low-extramodule MoA conservation. In addition, this can be used to identify individual drugs with strong MoA conservation spanning across two or more modules, thus indicating potential polypharmacology.…”
