In the current geopolitical and economic situation, the innovative activity of universities is becoming one of the factors of the activation of the economy as a whole. Of research interest are Russian universities included in international rankings and their indicators, which have a strong correlation with the scores of universities in the rankings. The research methodology is formed on the basis of correlation analysis, clustering method, scientometric tools of research analytics. The study includes 3 international rankings, 48 Russian universities, analyzed indicators for the period from 2017 to 2022. The aim of the study is to study the indicators of Russian universities with significant correlation coefficients (more than 0.5) with scores in THE.Research, ARWA and QS international rankings. A significant relationship was recorded between the rating scores and the cohort of university indicators: the average USE scores of applicants who entered the budget, the number of “Olympiad applicants”, the volume of R&D, the number of PhD students with PhD degrees per 100 students, the number of scientific publications jointly with foreign organizations and the income of the university. In addition, the article presents the dynamics of the number of Russian universities in the rankings for the period from 2017 to 2022, the percentage increase/ decrease in the number of points of each university, and also shows the dynamics of the number of Russian universities in comparison with the dynamics of universities in Germany and China. The hypotheses put forward about a high correlation between the “quality” of incoming applicants, the percentage of settled employees, total income and the volume of R&D of the university with the number of points of Russian universities in international rankings are confirmed.

Diversification is a fundamental attribute of higher education. With the continuous expansion of the scale, universities and colleges have paid more attention to developing in diversified ways. Diversification is an important way to promote sustainable development of universities and colleges. Sustainable development is the endogenous impetus for the long-term development of higher education. The implementation of classified performance evaluation on higher education is beneficial to optimize fund and resource allocation for different types of universities and colleges, to effectively promote the diversified construction and sustainable development of higher education. Therefore, it becomes extremely important in the reform of higher education in China. It classifies universities and colleges into different types and then implements performance evaluation on the objects of the same type. In this paper, a classified performance evaluation indicator system is established for different types of universities and colleges. Topsis model is used to calculate the relative adjacency between the evaluated objects and the optimal and inferior solutions of all objects. A systematic clustering algorithm is made to analyze and evaluate the performance of universities and colleges in the same type. An automatic system is developed to analyze data from 62 universities and colleges in Shanghai. It provides advice and guidance for the development strategy of higher education.

This article aims to fully investigate the activities of the Federal Universities of Russia in the context of various aspects of development and to find appropriate comprehensive assessment methods that can be applied to modern universities that meet the best global standards. The main methods of research are comparative analysis and the formation of qualimetric models based on synthetically selected evaluation criteria. Structural changes in the activities of Russian federal universities have been analyzed. Authors analyze scientific, educational and social activities and other parameters. Particular attention is paid to the development of the ecosystem of innovations in Russian federal universities, its constituent elements and the peculiarities of their functioning. The study provides an opportunity to combine various aspects in the model of university activities. The article presents a comparative analysis of the development of federal universities and their ranking by integrated assessment. The development of communication channels between the academic community and mass audiences was analyzed, also the publication activity of federal universities was evaluated. The authors propose the main methods and sources of collection, processing and verification of disparate information on the state of innovation ecosystems in Russian federal universities. The proposed methodology, unlike existing approaches, allows a comprehensive assessment of the successful and underdeveloped activities of modern universities in both statistics and dynamics. The conclusion of the work is the need for a comprehensive analysis of federal universities by building a qualification parametric model on a regular basis.
