Geographic variation in Congrogadus subducens (Teleostei, Perciformes, Congrogadidae)

Abstract: Congrogadus subducens, which is confined to the western Pacific ocean, is redescribed on the basis of 188 specimens. Differences were found between the Sahul and Sunda shelves populations. Although some of the differences could be the result of ecophenotypic effects, evidence is presented suggesting that at least part of the variation is best accounted for by genotypic components, which may be at least partly due to historical biogeographic events.
