Genome sequencing and annotation of Aeromonas veronii strain Ae52, a multidrug-resistant isolate from septicaemic gold fish ( Carassius auratus ) in Sri Lanka

Abstract: Here we report the draft genome sequence and annotation of A. veronii strain Ae52 isolated from the kidney of a morbund, septicaemic gold fish (Carassius auratus) in Sri Lanka. This clinical isolate showed resistance to multiple antimicrobials; amoxicillin, neomycin, trimethoprim-sulphonamide, chloramphenicol, tetracycline, enrofloxacin, erythromycin and nitrofurantoin. The size of the draft genome is 4.56 Mbp with 58.66% of G + C content consisting 4328 coding sequences. It harbors a repertoire of putative an… Show more

“…veronii biovar sobria can cause several types of infections in humans [1]; here we present genomic and phenotypical characteristics of AVS 312M which was isolated from a patient with diarrhea. The AVS 312M genome size and GC content are similar to that of other strains of the same species recovered from different sources [19,21,27,28], but its genome size, 4.57 Mbp, is smaller than of the strain TH0426 which contains 4.92 Mbp [29].…”

“…A. veronii is widely distributed in fresh water, sludge, sewage, soil and other natural environments [3]. The main aquatic animals infected by A. veronii include goldfish [4], Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) [5], Pacific red snapper (Lutjanus peru) [6] and turtles (Trionyx sinens) [7], resulting in serious economic losses in aquaculture and creating a potential threat to aquatic food safety [8][9][10][11]. By using antibiotics, it is possible to treat diseases induced by Aeromonas.…”

“…b Based on RAC database. c Bold type indicates resistance against respective antibiotics.reported(Jagoda, Honein, Arulkanthan, Ushio, & Asakawa, 2017;Ling et al, 2017).Most relevant ARGs in this strain were located in the chromosome. Unlike our strain, other Aeromonas species (43.5%-79.2% of which were A. veronii) did not show high resistance to (fluoro)quinolone, aminoglycoside, sulphonamide and/or trimethoprim(Jagoda et al, 2014;Sarria-Guzmán et al, 2014).…”
