Genetics and epigenetics of leukemia and lymphoma: from knowledge to applications, meeting report of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute

Abstract: The meeting, which brought together leading scientists and clinicians in the field of leukemia and lymphoma, was held at the new headquarters of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) in Badalona, Catalonia, Spain, September 19-20, 2019. Its purpose was to highlight the latest advances in our understanding of the molecular mechanisms driving blood cancers, and to discuss how this knowledge can be translated into an improved management of the disease. Special emphasis was placed on the role of ge… Show more

“…The IR spectra were recorded on a NICOLET 380 FTIR spectrometer with a highpressure ATR attachment equipped with a germanium crystal. The characteristic bands were approximately 1690 cm −1 (>C=N-amidine) and approximately 1740 cm −1 (>C=O) (see Figures S2-S4) 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, DEPT, COZY, HMBC, and HSQC spectra were measured using the Bruker AVANCE III HD 500MHz instrument at 500 MHz ( 1 H) and 125 MHz ( 13 C) at 25 • C for solutions in DMSO-d 6 (see Figures S5-S10).…”

“…French-American-British (FAB) defined eight subtypes (M0 to M7) based on the morphological and cytological characteristics of leukemia cells ( 8 ). According to genetics, morphology, immunophenotype and clinical manifestations, World Health Organization (WHO) classified leukemia into six main types and more than 20 subtypes ( 9 ). In addition, the prognosis of AML can be divided into good, moderate and poor groups based on cytogenetic characteristics ( 1 , 6 ), but the prognosis of different patients in each group is still very different, indicating that the gene expression pattern of leukemia is very complex.…”
