Genetic Variability, Character Association, and Path Coefficient Analysis in Transplant Aman Rice Genotypes

Abstract: A field experiment was carried out with 20 genotypes of Transplant Aman (T. Aman) rice at the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Salna, Gazipur-1706, Bangladesh. The study was performed to evaluate the genetic deviation, trait association, and path coefficient (PC) based on grain yield (GY) and different yield-contributing agronomic characters. Variance analysis displayed extensive traits-wise variations across accessions, indicating variabilit… Show more

“…This suggests the existence of genetic variability in 19 maintainer genotypes and indicates genetic improvement of studied traits is possible. This result follows previous studies [20][21][22][23][24]. Estimating genetic parameters is essential to understand the genetic basis of plant characteristics.…”

“…The estimated high CV observed in our research shows the large size of heterogeneity confirmed by Tripathi et al [ 38 ] and Win et al [ 44 ]. The variability of flowering time was repeated by Kanavi et al [ 33 ] from 33 to 53 days, and Win et al [ 34 ] from 31 to 75 days. In our investigation, the genotypes revealed earlier flowering lines, with early flowering assuring early maturity.…”

“…Therefore, the selection of such characters will indirectly enhance the grain yield. The associations between yield and other traits including the number of effective tillers per hill, plant height, flag leaf length, spikelet sterility percentage, number of filled spikelets per panicle, and harvest index were also revealed by Faysal et al (2022). These traits would be efficient for enhancing the yield, and the yield of rice in future breeding programs would be increased.…”
