Genetic parameters to production characters of palm heart in half-sibs progenies of palm peach

Abstract: The peach palm (Bactris gasipaes) is a palm tree that produces palm heart originated of Amazonia with economic, social and environmental sustainability. To obtain improved cultivars it is necessary the evaluation and selection of genotypes with characteristics that support producers, manufacturing and consumers. In this context, the objective of this study was to estimate genetic parameters for palm heart production traits of peach palm considering half sibs progenies. Twenty progenies of Putumayo macrocarpa r… Show more

“…For genetic breeding of perennial plants with unbalanced data, it is usual to estimate parameters and to predict genetic values using mixed linear models, especially with the Restricted Maximum Likelihood/Best Linear Unbiased Prediction (REML/BLUP) methodologies (Araujo et al 2019;Bergo et al 2019). In this way, it is possible to obtain more precise estimates of genetic parameters by allowing the comparison of individuals across time (years or generations) and space (locations or blocks), while simultaneously using a large number of data and correcting environmental effects in test progenies (Assis and Resende 2011).…”

“…This strategy allows faster progress in relation to the use of direct selection (Carvalho et al 2004;Moraes et al 2005). The association of correlation analysis with determination of other genetic parameters of genotypic, phenotypic and environmental variation and heritability is fundamental to obtain information on the population (Moraes et al 2005;Bergo et al 2019) and to understand the action of genes involved in trait control (Silva et al 2012).…”
