Genetic divergence of Oblacinska sour cherry (Prunus cerasus L.) clones

Abstract: Based on examination of 10 important pomologic and technologic properties, genetic divergence of 10 selected Oblacinska sour cherry clones was established. The genetic divergence between the analyzed clones was determined using the hierarchical cluster analysis. The UPGA method was used and the Euclidean distance in order to determine the difference between the groups. Four similar clone groups were obtained on the dendrogram. The objective of clone differentiation was primarily yield, although other propertie… Show more

“…'Oblačinska' sour cherry represents a mixture of a great number of clones (genotypes) so problems with its Ines Mihaljević et al 118 reproduction and exploitation occur. Because of these reasons, considering breeding methods, special attention should be devoted to the clonal selection (Nikolić et al, 2005).…”

“…All this conditioned that Oblaĉinska sour cherry today represents a heterogeneous sour cherry population, i.e. a mixture of a large number of clones -genotypes (NIKOLIĆ et al, 2005;RAKONJAC et al, 2010;FOTIRIĆ AKŠIĆ et al, 2014).…”

“…The first selection from a diverse gene pool was conducted by local farmers in order to obtain certain desirable traits . “…[4] According to several authors, who studied 'Obla cinska' sour cherry populations, the highest variability among genotypes was mainly found in pomological and technological traits, including fruits and yield. [5] [6] In order to obtain satisfying quantity and quality of sour cherry fruits, besides the application of necessary agrotechnical measures, prerequisite is that the flower must be pollinated. Sour cherry is entomophilous fruit species, so it is pollinated by insects.…”
