GC-MS, FTIR and Antiulcer Screening of Aqueous Seed Extract and Oil of Nigella sativa in Wistar Rats

Abstract: Peptic ulcer disease (PUD) is a sore in the lining of the stomach or duodenal mucosa. This study was aimed at evaluating the antiulcer activity of the aqueous extract of Nigella sativa (black seed) and its constitutents. The pharmacognostic properties of the dry seeds were determined. The seeds were extracted using two methods digestion and hydro-distillation. The acute toxicity, phytochemical constituents and the antiulcer evaluation were performed on ethanol-induced ulcer in wistar rats using a standard meth… Show more

“…The different extract/fractions of Rondeletia odorata at a concentration of 5 mg·mL −1 revealed urease inhibition of 45.69–73.39% [ 1 ]. The significant urease inhibitory activity of EAVO may be validated due to some bioactive constituents found in GC-MS of ethyl acetate fraction such as 9,12-Octadecadienoic acid (Z,Z)-, methyl ester [ 63 ], 2-Cyclopenten-1-one, 3-methyl- [ 64 ]. Several naturally available flavonoids including (quercetin), flavones, isoflavone, and polyphenolic compounds showed promising urease inhibitory activity [ 65 , 66 , 67 ].…”

“…The world populations (80%) rely on the use of herbal medicines to meet their primary health care needs although; up to 90% of the developing nations rely on the use of different medicinal plants [9] . In recent years, infections have increased to a great extent and antibiotics resistance effects have become a therapeutic problem [10] . Natural products are new sources of antimicrobial agents with possibly novel mechanisms of action; therefore, it is important to carry out a screening of these plants to authenticate their use in folk medicine, by isolation and characterization we reveal their constituents [11,12] .…”
