Gas Transportation: Present and Future

Abstract: Natural gas is a versatile form of non-polluting fuel. With just over a dozen nations accounting for 84% of the worldwide production, access to natural gas has become a significant factor in international economics and politics. The major difficulty in the use of natural gas is transportation and storage because of its low density. Despite this, natural gas production has seen tremendous growth over the years. This has been due to large amount of natural gas reserves, the wide variety of uses of natural gas an… Show more

“…The LNG and most mature monetization technologies relatively require higher amount of associated gas throughput or gas reverses compared to GTP. The amount of natural gas reserves suitable for utilization by GTP projects has been estimated to be within 10 billion cubic feet (Bscf) to 1 trillion cubic feet (Tscf) [10]. On this basis, the GTP or GTW is more attractive monetization option suitable for standalone onsite monetization of associated gas.…”

“…This technology entails an intricate pipeline network designed to facilitate the transportation of gas from its source to different destinations. These pipelines vary in diameter, typically ranging from 0.152 to 1.422 meters, and are capable of operating at pressures exceeding 49.3 bar [137]. Pipeline transportation is more suitable for relatively shorter distances, typically less than 2000 km [138].…”

“…The GTL technology defining factors are mainly location and transportation . According to a recent study, almost 40% of known natural gas reserves are in stranded locations (remote gas) or otherwise inaccessible gas . Moreover, remote gas accounts for nearly 16% of the world’s natural gas proved reserves.…”
