Material and Methods:The data presented in this study encompass a period of 25 years of clinical records of patients with Fournier's gangrene that had been treated at our center with hyperbaric oxygen therapy.Results: A total of 34 patients were treated. The vast majority of patients were males (94.1%) with a mean age of 53.7 years. Urinary tract was the most frequent source of infection and diabetes was most common comorbidity seen in patients. Mortality rate was 20.8%. Discussion: The most common observed comorbidity was diabetes, suggesting diabetes as one predisposing factor. The majority of deceased patients had diabetes, although no significant correlation between diabetes and death was found. The area of residence of patients may affect patients' referral to these facilities. Conclusions: Although Fournier's gangrene is a rare condition, it is nevertheless a fatal illness, namely in patients with comorbidities like diabetes. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is recommended as an adjuvant to conventional therapy and should be considered whenever available. To further assess the role of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, in the treatment of this condition, additional studies should be carried out.

Introduction: Fournier's Gangrene consists of multi-bacterial rapid progression infection, involving genital, abdominal, and perineal region, promoting affected tissue necrosis. Considered a public health problem, compromises the patient life quality, and has high mortality coefficients.Objective: Analyzing in the literature the therapeutic measures in patients diagnosed with Fournier's Gangrene. Method:Integrative review from productions picked up in LILACS, IBECS, MEDLINE, PUBMED, and CUMED databases in the period 2005 to 2015. Fournier's Gangrene, Prevalence and Therapy descriptors in English and Portuguese were used. The search amounted to 765 productions, of which 17 were included as a sample for this study. Results:The analysis regarding the publications enabled the construction of two thematic categories: demographic, epidemiological and clinical aspects of patients diagnosed with Fournier's Gangrene and the therapeutic modalities in treating Fournier's Gangrene. It was observed that the disease is prevalent in males, elderly, and people with diabetes mellitus. The treatment is based on antibiotics, surgical debridement, and skin reconstruction for the affected areas. RESUMO:Síndrome de Fournier ou Gangrena de Fournier é uma fasceíte necrotizante que acomete região perineal, perianal e genital, ocasionada por uma infecção polimicrobiana sinergística de bactérias aeróbicas e anaeróbicas, com predomínio em homens em média aos 50 anos. A enfermidade é caracterizada por uma endarteríte obliterante causando trombose vascular subcutânea e necrose de tecidos. Microrganismos distintos aparecem como patógenos nas culturas dos pacientes com essa enfermidade. O quadro clínico pode se manifestar com dor, eritema e edema, cianose e crepitação em bolsa escrotal e períneo associada ou não a febre e calafrios. Diagnóstico e intervenção precoce, com antibioticoterapia de largo espectro e drenagem ampla, permitiu melhores resultados nestes doentes. A mortalidade permanece elevada quando o diagnóstico é tardio e o tratamento operatório retardado. O objetivo do artigo é relatar um caso de Síndrome de Fournier em um paciente de 52 anos e discutir a melhor abordagem cirúrgica e seus impactos no sucesso terapêutico nesta enfermidade.
