The main contribution of this paper is the investigation of different model reference adaptation schemes for improving the performance of fuzzy logic control. Adaptive fuzzy control strategies are based on: i) fuzzy control with fuzzy internal model; ii) fuzzy control with fuzzy compensation; and iii) proportional and integral control with fuzzy adaptation. Numerical and experimental results are shown in order to assess the performance of each adaptive fuzzy control algorithm in nonlinear processes.

The pressure system of the HTHP rheometer is a complex and non-linear system, and it is hard to adjust the parameters with the PID control. An intelligent fuzzy self-tuning PID controller is developed to realize automatic on-line tuning of PID parameters to enhance the control accuracy for pressure control system. The simulation resultsshow that the fuzzy control system has not only a quick speed of response, but also a good robustness.
