Functional Analysis of StPHT1;7, a Solanum tuberosum L. Phosphate Transporter Gene, in Growth and Drought Tolerance

Abstract: PHT1 (phosphate transporter 1) family genes play important roles in regulating plant growth and responding to stress. However, there has been little research on the role of the PHT1 family in potatoes. In this study, using molecular and bioinformatic approaches, 8 PHT1 family genes were identified from the potato genome. StPHT1;7 was highly expressed in the whole potato plants. The overexpression and silence vectors of StPHT1;7 were constructed and transformed into the potato cultivar Desiree. Consequently, St… Show more

“…Prediction and analysis of physicochemical properties of all PLD protein sequences in potato were made using the Expasy website (https://web.expasy.org/protparam/ (accessed on 21 November 2020)). ClustalW was applied to align StPLD, AtPLD, and OsPLD proteins [27] followed by MEGA 10.1.7 to establish the phylogenetic tree with neighbor-joining, bootstrap replicates (1000), p-distance [28].…”

“…This study also showed that organic fertiliser substitution led to upregulation of ClaPHT1;7 expression by 1.9‐fold and 13.4‐fold in roots and leaves, respectively, over that measured in plants grown on chemical fertiliser alone. It is likely that PHT1;7 plays a role in P i homeostasis in leaves when organic fertiliser is used as a P source since PHT1;7 was conducive to photosynthesis and played central roles in P i redistribution from old to young leaves (Cao et al, 2020; Wang et al, 2020). PHO1 belongs to the PHT5 subfamily and localises to the Golgi endomembranes in root pericycle cells.…”

“…The expression of 15 MdPHT genes was upregulated in apple under drought stress 57 . Cao et al (2020) found that overexpression of StPHT1;7 in potato influenced plant growth and tolerance to drought stress 58 . Therefore, it is urgent that researchers develop plants with enhanced efficiency of soil phosphorus use under such conditions.…”
