Fully Integrated High Gain S-Band Triangular Slot Antenna for CubeSat Communications

Abstract: Among other CubeSat subsystems, Antenna is one of the most important CubeSat components as its design determines all the telecommunication subsystems’ performances. This paper presents a coplanar wave-guide (CPW)-fed equilateral triangular slot antenna constructed and analyzed for CubeSat communications at S-band. The proposed antenna alone presents high gain and ultra-wide band while its radiation pattern is bidirectional at an unlicensed frequency of 2450 MHz. The objective is to use the CubeSat chassis as a… Show more

“…Nowadays, the antenna represents the key component in wireless communication and microwave imaging applications. Compact, easy to fabricate, low profile and low cost are the requirements of antennas for future communication applications and microstrip monopole antenna fulfills these requirement [1], [2]. The main aim of the current research is to propose a design for a small high-performance antenna.…”

“…The main aim of the current research is to propose a design for a small high-performance antenna. Various approaches have been taken by previous researchers, such as notches and slots [2]- [8], tuning stub [8], [9], electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) [10]- [12], magneto-dielectric substrate [13], dielectric substrates with high permittivity [14] and defected ground structure (DGS) [15].…”

“…2 The number of antennas for CubeSats that operates at 437 MHz, that is, the amateur ultra high frequency (UHF) band, has expanded recently, which not only allows for seamless uplink and downlink communication, but it also allows one CubeSats to interconnect with each other in a network. 1,3 In the S, C, and X bands, patch antennas with planar configuration have been observed to work. Various slotbased antennas with planar configurations have been highlighted in the literature.…”
