Background: A major side effect of cyclophosphamide (CPA) during chemotherapy is hemotoxicity. Use of natural products like royal jelly reduced the adverse effect of a drug. A current study was an effort to find out the potential defensive effects of royal jelly against hemotoxicity induced by cyclophosphamide in male albino mice. Methods: Male Swiss albino mice of 20±5 gms were unevenly divided into six groups; G1: normal control group 0.9% saline solution I.P. weekly, G2: royal jelly (100 mg/kg/d) CMC suspended administered by orally, G3: cyclophosphamide (50 mg/kg/week) was injected intra-peritoneally, G4: I.P. cyclophosphamide (50 mg/kg/week) along with royal jelly (100 mg/kg/d), G5: I.P. cyclophosphamide (50 mg/kg/week) with royal jelly (250 mg/kg/d), G6: I.P. cyclophosphamide (50 mg/kg/week) and royal jelly (500 mg/kg/d). The experiment lasted for 12 weeks. The measurement of hematological parameters CBC was performed using automated hematology system. Mean±SEM one way ANOVA followed by Tukey's test were performed to find out the significant difference between groups. Results: Cyclophosphamide treated mice exhibit leucopenia, erythrocytopenia, thrombocytopenia and the significant reduction in hemoglobin (Hb), packed cell volume (PCV), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) as compared to control group. The administration of royal jelly to CPA treated mice, according to the present experimental plan significantly improves the alterations induced in haemogram. Conclusion: It was suggested that royal jelly ameliorate cyclophosphamide-induced hematological alterations, thus it might be used as a dietary protective natural remedy during the chemotherapy.

The potential effects of the fullerene C60 nanoparticle (C60) as well as virgin olive oil (VOO) against the cyclophosphamide- (CP-) induced cytotoxic and mutagenic effects were evaluated by two main methods: molecular intersimple sequence repeat (ISSR) assay and cytogenetic biomarkers. Thirty adult male rats were divided to five groups (control, CP, C60, CP + C60, and CP + VOO). CP was i.p. injected with a single dose of 200 mg/kg; C60 and VOO were given orally (4 mg/kg dissolved in VOO and 1 ml, resp.) in alternative days for 20 days. The ISSR analysis revealed an increased in the DNA fragmentation level for liver and heart tissues represented by 21.2% and 32.6%, respectively, in the CP group. The DNA polymorphism levels were modulated and improved in CP + C60 (8.9% and 12%) and CP + VOO (9.8% and 12.7%) for hepatic and cardiac tissues, respectively. The bone marrow cytogenetic analysis revealed that C60 and VOO had significantly decreased the frequency of CP-induced chromosomal aberrations (chromosomal ring, deletion, dicentric chromosome, fragmentation, and polyploidy). Fullerene C60 and VOO have ability to reduce DNA damage and decrease chromosomal aberrations. In conclusion, fullerene C60 and VOO have protective effects against the CP-induced mutagenicity and genotoxicity. Fullerene C60 and VOO open an interesting field concerning their potential antigenotoxic agents against deleterious side effects of chemotherapeutics.

Особое место среди наноструктур занимают фул-лерены. Это связано с тем, что они, и только они, представляют собой молекулярную форму углерода. Следовательно, как и всякие молекулы, они харак-теризуются молекулярной массой и стабильностью состава. Наиболее легко получается и поэтому ши-роко используется наименьший по размеру фулле-рен С 60 , затем фуллерен С 70 . Среди других выде-ленных и хоть минимально изученных фуллеренов можно упомянуть С 74 , С 76 , С 78 , С 80 , С 82 и С 84 и т. д.Биологические свойства представителей любого класса соединений определяются их физическими и химическими свойствами. Однако это не совсем так в приложении к наноструктурам углерода во- Резюмее.В обзоре рассмотрены свойства фуллере-нов и их производных и возможность их применения в биологии и медицине. Фуллерены могут оказывать в биологических системах как антиоксидантное дей-ствие, улавливая активные формы кислорода (АФК), так и окислительное, придавая фуллерену фотосенси-тизирующие свойства. Обладающие мембранотропным действием, липофильные молекулы фуллеренов взаимо-действуют с различными биологическими структурами и могут изменять функции этих структур, увеличивая липофильность активной молекулы (аминокислот, ну-клеиновых кислот, белков и др.). Приведены данные о биологическом действии фуллеренов в опытах in vitro и in vivo. Рассмотрены примеры адресной доставки извест ных терапевтических агентов.
