Free Radical Scavenger and Antihepatotoxic Activity ofRosmarinus tomentosus

Abstract: The aerial parts of R. tomentosus were collected during the flowering period (March, 1991) in Velez Benaudalla (Granada, Spain), as populations observed in this area were pure and did not overlap with other species of Rosmarinus. The plant's identity was confirmed by the Department of Botany (Dr. Oswaldo Socorro), Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Granada. The specimens are currently deposited in the GDA (Faculty of Pharmacy, Herbarium, University of Granada) under catalogue number 19471. Total ext ractfor te… Show more

“…Supporting our finding it has been found by Douaouya et al,(2016)that liver was necrotized in diabetic patients [1] . Therefore, the increment of the activities of AST, ALT, LDH, AlP and AcP in plasma may be mainly due to the leakage of these enzymes from the liver cytosol into the Blood stream, which gives an indication on the hepatotoxic effect of alloxan [42] . On the other hand, treatment of the diabetic rats with garlic caused reduction in the activity of these enzymes in plasma compared to the mean values of diabetic group (Table 2).…”

“…When liver enzyme activity increased, it refl ects liver damage in serum. Possibly, increased activity of liver enzymes ALT and AST is because of leakage from the cytosol into the blood stream, leakage increased by liver damage that is caused by diabetes [23]. AST and ALT are good indicators for liver function.…”

“…The transaminases activities in semen are a good indicator of semen quality because they measures sperm membrane stability (Kelso et al, 1997;Zedda et al, 1996). Also, the increments of the activities of AST and ALT in seminal plasma are mainly due to the leakage of these enzymes (Navarro et al, 1993). Yousef and Zeitoun (1998) found that there were negative correlation coefficients between decreased sperm motility on one side and AST and ALT release on the other side.…”
