“…The results showed that most of the stories cited Benue natives as sources followed by the Benue State government. This result is contrary to that of Kee et al (2012) who, in a study of media framing of disputes, revealed that the news sources were mostly from the government. The result of this study is also contrary to postulations of Carruthers (2000), Pfau et al (2004) and Tumber and Palmer (2004), who submitted that news media usually depend on official sources and are especially dependent on information from government and military sources during wartime.…”

“…In a frame-building process, it is vital to consider the interaction between media and news sources. According to a study by Chang, Faridah, Fauziah, and Chew (2012), news sources or frame sponsors are more influential in the frame-building process. Frame sponsors play a vital role in influencing the frame-building mainly because they are the ones who make efforts to frame information in news stories.…”

“…Examples of these studies are Hänggli and Kriesi (2012), Lengauer and Höller (2013) and Dimitrova and Kostadinova (2013). However, frame-building studies focused on specific issues can also be found, such as energy conservation (Bolsen, 2010) and biotechnology (Nisbet and Lewenstein, 2002) in the United States, impunity in public affairs (Zhou and Moy, 2007) and language policy (Kee et al, 2012).…”
