‘Four goals for three players’: using 3 vs. 3 small-sided games at school

Abstract: Purpose. Small-sided games (SSGs) are extensively used in soccer training around the world owing to the physical and physiological improvements reported among athletes. Elementary physical education students could achieve and solidify their tactical/technical knowledge in a relatively short time with the SSGs pedagogical strategy. The aim of this research was, firstly, to establish the between-age differences in the physical and physiological demands of a 3 vs. 3 futsal SSGs called 'four goals for three player… Show more

“…The same unit was also used by each player in all matches to reduce the measurement error between units. The reliability of similar devices has been well documented in the literature (Silva, Esteves, Correia, Davids, Araújo & Garganta, 2015;Clemente, Sarmento, Rabbani, Van Der Linden, Kargarfard & Costa, 2019;Evangelio, González-Víllora & Clemente, 2019).…”

“…The decision-making and skill execution variables have been previously investigated in studies with SSGs. 2123 The variables “support” and “guard/mark” were also included in this study because of their importance in assessing the tactical behaviour of the players without the ball. The items ‘decision-making’ and ‘skill efficacy’ were analysed considering the result of the action, while for the items ‘support’ and ‘guard/mark’ only the frequencies were recorded.…”

“…In our study, the game involvement index (x̄=36.18) was measured at a good level. Excluding skill and decision-making indices in game-based applications (GBA), the game involvement index has also yielded very good results in other studies (Barquero-Ruiz et al, 2021;Evangelio et al, 2019;Morales-Belando et al, 2018). The GBA will continue to maintain its role as an important promoter of physical education classes.…”
