“…However, other studies have shown the presence of aflatoxins in cassava products [5,23,24]. The study conducted by Jonathan et al [24] showed that major spoilage (biodeteriorating) fungi of Attiéké from Ejigbo, Iwo and Adjame in West Africa were mostly molds with Aspergillus niger and A. flavus having highest occurrence and Candida albicans and their percentage occurrence has direct effect on its food values.…”

Table 2 shows that of the 21 markets sampled in North Kivu, only four markets whose cassava products were contaminated by aflatoxin; it's about Oicha, Alungupa, Beni city and Kayina. The highest aflatoxin contamination was noted in samples that came from Beni city market, with the mean of aflatoxins was 1.2 ppb for aflatoxin B1 followed by Kayina (1.05 ppb) and Alupunga market (0.89 ppb).…”

“…In Ivory Coast, total aflatoxins (AFs) were also found on dried kernels ranging from 2-162 µg/kg (Probst et al, 2014). Analysis of contaminated 'attieke' from Adjame in Ivory Coast showed AFB 1 and AFB 2 concentrations ranging between 1.64-6.47 µg/kg and 2.48-2.53 µg/kg respectively (Jonathan Segun et al, 2017). Total AFs were also reported in Ivorian cocoa with a mean of 2.36±0.61 µg/kg (Coulibaly et al, 2016).…”

“…"However, some of the challenges facing the production of Ogi are nutrient losses which occur at different stages of its production (Awoyale et al 2016), and its contamination by fungi". "The storage time significantly reduced the nutrient content of the Ogi samples between week 0 and week 8; this could be a result of the deteriorating activities of the associated fungi in the Ogi powder" [10]. "Fungi, as saprophytic organisms, usually act on food as substrate and deteriorate them in other to absorb nutrients from them.…”
