OBJETIVO:avaliar a eficácia da intervenção terapêutica fonoaudiológica para crianças com Distúrbios do Espectro do Autismo.MÉTODOS:a amostra foi composta por 11 crianças. Essas crianças foram divididas aleatoriamente em dois grupos: Seis estavam recebendo intervenção direta e indireta (GT) e cinco apenas atendimento exclusivamente indireto (GO). Foram utilizadas as seguintes partes do teste ASIEP-2: Autism Behavior Checklist, Avaliação de Interação e Amostra do Comportamento Vocal em três ocasiões: no início, seis meses depois, e após 12 meses.RESULTADOS:observou-se maior evolução do GT no Autism Behavior Checklist, Avaliação Interação e na Amostra de comportamento vocal. Tanto as mães quanto a fonoaudióloga perceberam mudanças comportamentais.CONCLUSÕES:a tendência de melhor desempenho das crianças atendidas na intervenção direta e indireta mostrou que esta associação foi fundamental.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi descrever um processo de intervenção fonoaudiológica focado na adequação das habilidades linguísticas, sociais e cognitivas de uma criança com Distúrbio de Linguagem como parte de um Transtorno Global do Desenvolvimento (TGD), sob a perspectiva comportamental. A criança em questão era do gênero feminino e foi diagnosticada numa clínica-escola de Fonoaudiologia e encaminhada ao diagnóstico neurológico aos 2 anos de idade. Logo após o diagnóstico iniciou-se a intervenção fonoaudiológica individual, com base numa perspectiva comportamentalista de base mais tradicional; no entanto, ao longo do processo, houve mudanças no direcionamento da intervenção, sendo aqui relatados os dois primeiros anos de intervenção e apresentados dados da reavaliação fonoaudiológica no início do terceiro ano de intervenção. Como resultado da intervenção, houve melhora da linguagem receptiva e expressiva, sendo que a criança apresentou evolução quanto ao aspecto comportamental e aquisição de habilidades comunicativas, associando respostas verbais à ações. Além disso, houve aumento do contato ocular e do tempo de atenção e de aspectos relacionados ao simbolismo. O caso foi descrito com a preocupação de deixar claro que nem sempre é fácil a identificação da melhor abordagem terapêutica para essas crianças logo no início do processo, sendo que as decisões acerca da abordagem adequada devem ser repensadas constantemente não somente em decorrência do diagnóstico em si, mas também das manifestações da sintomatologia geral e específica – que variam conforme o desenvolvimento da criança e a evolução do processo de intervenção. Essas decisões devem ser pautadas na experiência do profissional, mas também na expectativa e no limite de cada família.

PURPOSE: To verify if there are characteristic behaviors of the different diagnosis included in the autism spectrum according to the Differential Assessment of Autism and Other Developmental Disorders (DAADD) and to the Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC). METHOD: Participants were 45 individuals and their respective speech-language therapists. All therapists are graduate students working with the children for at least 1 year. This time was considered sufficient to the therapists to have the information required by the DAADD questionnaire. It is comprised by 3 protocols specifically designed to children with 2 to 4 years, 4 to 6 years and 6 to 8 years, the same criteria used to separate the research groups, G1, G2 and G3, respectively. Data referring to the ABC were retrieved from the subject's files at the Laboratório de Investigação Fonoaudiológica nos Distúrbios do Espectro do Autismo (Research Laboratory on Language Disorders in the Autism Spectrum) of the School of Medicine, Universidade de São Paulo, where it is routinely applied during the annual assessment. RESULTS: Answers to the different areas of DAADD are similar to the different areas of ABC. These data show data the diagnosis by DAADD is easier in older children. Although there is no significant difference, the large occurrence of Rett's syndrome diagnosis according to the DAADD was associated to higher risk for autism according to the ABC in G1. With increasing age this tendency decreases and either in G2 and G3 Autism is the most frequent diagnosis. CONCLUSION: Although the results of both questionnaires tend to agree more with increasing age, the DAADD is more sensitive in the different ages while the ABC if more specific only to older children.
