A review of publications on gas-liquid devices with a foam regime, published since 2000, generalizations of the main directions of interest to researchers and the results achieved. The main method for studying the foam layer has become computational fluid dynamics, however, the most common models are based on empirical equations for cross-flow trays with round holes. Apparatus with a movable nozzle and centrifugal foam apparatus - two areas of particular interest in the Russian Federation, but did not gain popularity in the world. The research uses new measuring methods: gamma scanning, Doppler interferometry and digital processing of high-speed photographs, spatial probes to determine the structure of the foam layer on industrial-scale trays.

Focusing on energy conservation and process intensification, a comprehensive overview of advanced distillation technologies in the past four decades in China is presented. Novel trays, packings, and gas and liquid distributors based on the fundamentals of such technologies are described. Hybrid distillation and distillation assisted by an external force field on the basis of process intensification principles like reactive distillation, extractive distillation, Higee technology, microwaveassisted distillation, etc. are reported. Energy-saving technologies such as dividing-wall column and internally heat integrated distillation column together with some important examples regarding the industrial application of advanced distillation technologies are evaluated. As a guide to develop distillation processes, a green distillation concept is proposed. Future perspectives of distillation techniques in China are indicated.

Air‐water experiments (cold‐flow experiments) were performed for the liquid distributor of an industrial falling film evaporator (FFE). The feed to the FFE is superheated and a flash evaporation occurs in the head of the FFE. The aim of the experiments was to investigate the vapor‐liquid flow in the head and the resulting liquid distribution to the evaporator tubes. Several different designs of the distributor were investigated and explanations for the performance losses of the real evaporator over time were found. Several measures were finally concluded and also implemented for the real FFE.
