Abstract:The spatial and temporal distributions of vegetation can be influenced by edaphic and environmental factors as well as disturbances. The present study was undertaken to characterize the distribution and spatial dependence of species diversity in a fragment of semideciduous seasonal forest after a disturbance event by fire and to identify changes during natural regeneration. The fire, occurred in 1999, and surveys were undertaken in 2000, 2005 and 2014 in 26 geo-referenced plots (400 m²) distributed along two transects. The Fire Damage Index (FDI) in each plot was based on a scale from 0 to 5, and all of the arboreal individuals with diameters at breast height (DBH) ≥ 5 cm were identified in each plot. Species diversity was calculated using the Shannon index (H'), and species richness (S) was estimated using species accumulation curves; variations between the surveys compared based on the means and standard errors. The S, H' and FDI data were submitted to non-spatial exploratory and geostatistical analyses. After adjusting the semivariograms, the levels of spatial dependence were classified, and interpolation of the variables values were performed using ordinary kriging to characterize their spatial distributions in the form of maps. Spatial analysis was used to identify and characterize differences between the post-fire surveys in terms of the configurations of the arboreal community. The fire event influenced the spatial and temporal structures of the variables S and H'. These variables showed spatial dependence and aggregated distributions, with reduction in the distance under spatial influences and a uniformity of individuals distribution in the forest fragment at the different surveys. This research characterized the distribution and spatial dependence of the variables S and H' in a forest fragment after a fire event and the alterations in the arboreal community structure during natural regeneration. Historically, forest landscapes have been modified by human activities, causing its destruction and fragmentation to exploit its resources. However, forests play a vital role in protecting the environment, especially on slops, hilltops, lakes, springs and river banks. This study aimed to understand the diversity and structure of vegetation on a slope of riparian forest in Bocaina de Minas, MG and identify key environmental variables that influence the spatial distribution of individual trees. An inventory of the tree community was conducted, in which ten of 10m×40m plots were allocated and systematically distributed throughout the study area. All individuals existing shrubs and trees within the plots with 1.30m diameter ≥ 5.0cm of soil were sampled in order to generate information on the horizontal structure, richness and diversity of the community. Variables related to the substrata were obtained for each plot from the topography and laboratory analysis of soil samples (pH, levels of P, K, Ca, Mg and Al, base saturation (V), organic matter and levels of sand, silt and clay). Other variables such as distance from the river and successional stage of the plots, were also evaluated. In order to correlate environmental variables with the abundance distribution of the species, a canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) and Spearman correlation were used. The Shannon diversity index (H') and evenness index (J') obtained were 3.53 and 0.76, respectively. The emerging patterns of environmental variables and the abundance of species indicate that these were distributed throughout the fragment, mainly due to the P content in soil and successional stage of the plots. In addition, several species have produced significant correlations between their abundance in the plots and the variables related to successional stage, variations in soil, and distance from the banks of water courses.

e Fernando Palha Leite 5 RESUMO -A ocupação e uso de diferentes ambientes pelo ser humano estão ligados às características do meio físico, de modo que os fragmentos de floresta nativa podem ficar restritos a áreas impróprias para uso ou de difícil acesso. A hipótese deste estudo é de que a distribuição de fragmentos florestais na paisagem é não aleatória e não representaria a diversidade fisiográfica e pedológica da paisagem na qual esses fragmentos estão inseridos. Com o objetivo de avaliar a representatividade ambiental de áreas protegidas em áreas de plantios homogêneos de eucalipto, foram derivados atributos topográficos de um Modelo Digital de Elevação (MDE) e gerados mapas de solos das áreas de estudo. O teste de Qui-Quadrado retornou valores significativos de todas as variáveis ambientais analisadas no nível de 5% de probabilidade. Tal fato indica que a distribuição das áreas de floresta nativa e de plantios de eucalipto é não aleatória, dependendo de fatores como declividade, orientação, posição na paisagem e grupos de solos. As florestas nativas estão bem representadas nas diferentes classes de declividade e orientação, mas estão sub-representadas nos topos de morros, onde ocorrem os Latossolos.
