Floating and Stability Effect on Fish Feed Pellets Using Different Concentration of Baobab Leaf Meal (Adansonia digitata)

Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the floating and stability of fish feed pellets formulated with different concentration of Baobab (Adansonia digitata) leaf meal (BLM). Five isonitrogenous fish feed (35% CP) with varying inclusion levels of Baobab leaf meal (0% BLM, 4% BLM, 8% BLM, 12% BLM and 16% BLM designated as D1, D2, D3, D4 and D5 respectively was used. Ten (10) pellets of each experimental feed were placed in plastic beaker (55 x 25 x 30 cm) for 50 minutes. Feed pellet floatability and stabil… Show more

“…The fermentation process changes the distance and diameter of the material particles to be shorter and smaller, so that it will affect the consistency when added to feed [3]. This is in line with several research results which inform that oil supplements and the fermentation process will change the aroma, appearance, texture and consistency of feed ingredients [17][18][19]. One of the responses of fish to feed is shown by the composition of digestive enzymes as shown in Fig.…”

“…The floatability value of the formulated fish feed was carried out by measuring the length of time it takes for the feed to move from the surface of the water to the bottom of the rearing medium (Felix & Oscar, 2018). The formulated fish feed was measured for the floatability value of each ammonia design, which aims to determine how much the feed's floatability in the water.…”

“…For fish, floating feed is fundamental for optimum feed intake since fish are fast swimmers and naturally eat at the water column [60]. The use of different ingredients combinations particularly the binder agent exhibits greater pellet characteristics such as pellet buoyancy, good water stability, digestibility, minimum wastage of raw materials, as well as low water pollution [61].…”
