Interactions Between Food, Feeding and Diets in Crustaceans: A Review

Abstract: There are several literatures that cover different views of crustacean food, feeding and behavior aspects, but little was known on its interaction between them and it's also shown a different perspective. Thus, a better understanding of the interactions between food, feeding and diets in crustaceans is vital for developing better quality of seed or broodstock produced in hatchery and its adaptation to the aquaculture environment and system. The aim of the present review is to update the state of the art and to… Show more

“…Thus, in the present study, the release of FAAs in the first hour provided sufficient attraction to attract lobsters to feed, after which other ninhydrin-positive substances that were stable within the feed were not substantially released and did not enhance feeding behaviour. This suggests that lobsters react readily to the presence of attractive feed and lose interest quickly after depletion of FAA, confirming that attractants are a crucial component of formulated feeds to optimise feed intake and growth in spiny lobster aquaculture [ 43 , 44 ].…”
