Flavonoids ofArtocarpus heterophyllusLam. heartwood inhibit the innate immune responses of human phagocytes

Abstract: Artocarpanone and artocarpin were able to suppress strongly the phagocytosis of human phagocytes at different steps and have potential to be developed into potent anti-inflammatory agents.

“…In India, it is also called “Panasa”, “Atibruhatphala”, “Kantaphal”, and “Kanthal” due to its physical characteristics. The AH tree is also considered to be a source of flavonoids, sterols, volatile acids, carotenoids, and tannins, which vary depending on the stage of maturity [ 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 ]. Moreover, it also has a unique combination of iron, vitamin C, vitamin B complex (especially vitamin B 6 , niacin, folic acid, and riboflavin), and minerals (mainly calcium and potassium) [ 11 , 12 ].…”

“…20 Phagocytosis is a fundamental function of immune cells to eliminate foreign materials including pathogens. 21 In order to know correlation between NO secretion and phagocytosis, then we also observed the phagocytosis activity of treated RAW 264.7 cells using phagocytosis assay. The results showed that some of RAW 264.7 cells with LPS, β glucan and seaweed extracts treatment performed suspected-giant cells formation as a results of phagocytosis activity.…”

“…Multiagent treatment of osteosarcoma is associated with acute long-term toxicities, including potential Evidence suggests that artocarpin, a prenylated flavonoid isolated from an agricultural Artocarpus plant, has multiple pharmacological properties (e.g., anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, and anticancer properties). For example, artocarpin demonstrated potent anti-inflammatory effects at different stages of phagocytosis and was able to suppress human phagocyte response (Septama, Jantan, & Panichayupakaranant, 2018). In addition, studies have indicated that artocarpin possesses anticancer effects through various mechanisms.…”
