First Phylogenetic Treatment of Apple Cucumber (Family Cucurbitaceae) from Indonesia Utilizing DNA Variation of Internal Transcibed Spacer Region

Abstract: Cucurbitaceae is one of the largest family in Angiosperm in which the most member of this family is important fruit crops in Indonesia such as Cucumber, Melon, Watermelon, and Apple Cucumber. In particular, Apple Cucumber, currently attracts attention to many researchers due to its phylogeneticand taxonomic problem. In term of its appearance, the fruit looks like an apple but the taste is melon. The purpose of this study was to elucidatephylogenetic relationship between Apple Cucumber and other species of Cucu… Show more

“…The carbohydrate contents of FDPP, FDWMP, and FDRMP were significantly (p < 0.05) different at 73.86, 69.61, and 77.51%, respectively. In a previous study, the carbohydrate content of cucumber (another Cucurbit) was 76.13 g/100 g (Hidayat et al, 2021). On the other nutrients, total dietary fibre of FDWMP was significantly (p < 0.05) highest (31.28 g) compared to FDPP (9.96 g) and FDRMP (7.62 g).…”

“…Only one gene of the potential tens of thousands of genes has been investigated in M. scabra (Hidayat et al, 2021). The genetics, proteomics, and metabolomics of this small, but flavorful fruit have yet to be investigated.…”

“…To date, the genome of M. scabra has not been sequenced in its entirety, which is probably due to it being a lesserknown cucurbit. The Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) region of the nuclear Ribosomal DNA was sequenced by Hidayat and colleagues, and the accession number was provided from this study (Hidayat et al, 2021). While M.…”

“…The most common method and also used in http://journal.uinsgd.ac.id/index.php/biodjati this study was multiple sequence alignment (MSA). The next step was reconstructing the phylogenetic tree of Magnoliopsida and Liliopsida by analyzing it using PAUP 4.0b10 based on bootstrap values, constant characters, uninformative characters, informative characters, consistency index (CI), and retention index (RI) (Hidayat et al, 2021). Phylogenetic analysis used the maximum parsimony method.…”
