Field Optimization and Electrostatic Stress Reduction of Proposed Conductor Scheme for Pliable Gas-Insulated Transmission Lines

Abstract: The implementation of stranded conductors in flexible gas-insulated transmission lines (FGILs) requires field intensity minimization as well as field irregularity suppression in order to avoid dielectric breakdown. Moreover, the interdependence of enclosure and conductor sizes of FGILs regarding electrostatic aspects necessitate critical consideration of their dimensional specifications. In this research, geometric and electrostatic field optimization for FGILs regarding stranded conductors is performed. In ad… Show more

“…Another publication, related to the largest node, presents an analysis of the Flexible Gas Insulated Transmission Lines (FGILs) [100]. The synergistic impact of aging is compared according to time and temperature, the effect of external and internal loads, as well as the dead weight existing in a FGIL with the results established in one form of Gas Insulated Lines (GILs).…”

“…M. J. Alvi, et al [7], in their paper entitled "Field Optimization and Electrostatic Stress Reduction of Proposed Conductor Scheme for Pliable Gas-Insulated Transmission Lines", performs the geometric and electrostatic field optimization for Flexible Gas-Insulated Transmission Lines (FGILs) regarding stranded conductors. Also, the impact of conductor irregularity on field dispersion is investigated, and a Semiconducting Film (SCF)-coated stranded conductor is suggested as a potential candidate for FGILs.…”

“…In contrast to the rigid metallic ground of conventional GIL, the braided metallic ground in FGIL, being placed inside the thermoplastic enclosure, is free from environmental impact and supports the structural flexibility of FGIL. Figure 1 shows the schematic of FGIL [41]. Reference [35] studied the synergistic dielectric characteristics of FGIL along with the effect of enclosure's pitch upon electrostatic field distribution.…”

Authors of reference [41] analyzed the effect of electrode irregularity upon field distribution in FGIL. Reference [42] compared the flexibility of FGIL with conventional GIL regarding HDD based underground cable laying in metropolitan vicinities.…”
