INTRODUCTION: Since the emergence of antiretroviral therapy, the survival of patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus has increased. Non-adherence to this therapy is directly related to treatment failure, which allows the emergence of resistant viral strains. METHODS: A retrospective descriptive study of the antiretroviral dispensing records of 229 patients from the Center for Health Care, University Hospital, Federal University of Juiz de Fora, Brazil, was conducted between January and December 2009. RESULTS: The study aimed to evaluate patient compliance and determine if there was an association between non-adherence and the therapy. Among these patients, 63.8% were men with an average age of 44.0 ± 9.9 years. The most used treatment was a combination of 2 nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors with 1 non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (55.5%) or with 2 protease inhibitors (28.8%). It was found that patients taking lopinavir/ritonavir with zidovudine and lamivudine had a greater frequency of inadequate treatment than those taking atazanavir with zidovudine and lamivudine (85% and 83.3%, respectively). Moreover, when the combination of zidovudine/ lamivudine was used, the patients were less compliant (χ2 = 4.468, 1 degree of freedom, p = 0.035). CONCLUSIONS: The majority of patients failed to correctly adhere to their treatment; therefore, it is necessary to implement strategies that lead to improved compliance, thus ensuring therapeutic efficacy and increased patient survival.

prontuários, 199 (51%) são do sexo do masculino, residentes na zona urbana (41,3%), pardos (54,6%), possuem ensino fundamental incompleto (40%). Os casos de cor ignorados (12,6%). Destaca-se o alto percentual de pessoas vivendo com HIV na qual possuem baixa escolaridade, a média de idade é de 34,64 anos. Conclusão: maioria dos achados segue o perfil do cenário nacional, constando-se o fenômeno de feminização, interiorização e pauperização do HIV. Contudo, a cor parda foi mais expressiva, divergindo do cenário nacional. Descritores: HIV. Infecções Sexualmente Transmissíveis. Coinfecção. RESUMÉN Objetivo: elevar el perfil socio demográfico de los pacientes con VIH/SIDA atendidos en un Servicio de Atención Especializada. Metodología: se trata de un documental de la sección transversal y retrospectivo. La recolección de datos se llevó a cabo a partir de noviembre 2015-marzo 2016, los registros incluidos en el período de 2005 a 2014. La colección de registros de datos utilizados se estructura y el instrumento de medida. El proyecto fue aprobado por el Comité de Ética de Investigación de la de Estudios Superiores de Caxias/Universidad del Estado de Maranhão Centro, CAAE número 42341014.1.0000.5554. Se introdujeron los datos en Excel, analizados mediante el paquete estadístico para las Ciencias Sociales y la prueba de chicuadrado de Pearson. Resultados: en total 390 registros, 199 (51%) eran de sexo masculino, que reside en zonas urbanas (41,3%), marrón (54,6%) tienen educación primaria incompleta (40%). Los casos ignoran de color (12,6%). Es de destacar el alto porcentaje de personas que viven con el VIH en las que tienen bajo nivel educativo, la edad media es de 34,64 años. Conclusión: la mayoría de los hallazgos sigue el perfil nacional de escena, que consiste en que la feminización fenómeno, la internalización y la pauperización del VIH. Sin embargo, el color marrón era más expresivo, apartándose de la escena nacional. Descriptores: VIH. Infecciones de Transmisión sexual. Coinfección.
