Factors Influencing the Use of Intermittent Bladder Catheterization by Individuals With Spina Bifida in Brazil and Germany

Abstract: Findings suggest that difficulties with IC use experienced by spina bifida patients and their family members that predicted full discontinuation tended to be personal variables, rather than demographic or medical characteristics.

“…In addition to being the most common neurologic diagnoses associated with CIC use, these diagnoses have reliable data on population size and CIC utilization. Rates of CIC use in each population were indentified and from these estimates we were able to calculate the number of persons performing CIC for neurogenic urinary retention.
