O presente estudo é um relato de experiência das atividades dos extensionistas da Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR), na prevenção e tratamento dos traumatismos dentais, para criar: um guia de condutas clínicas sobre trauma dental para graduandos e profissionais de Odontologia, materiais digitais de prevenção da avulsão dentária para escolares e evento de extensão sobre traumatismo dental para os estudantes do Curso Técnico em Agente Comunitário de Saúde, em Curitiba. A base deste trabalho contou com a pesquisa em base de dados de Odontologia e livros digitais. A avulsão dentária é uma ocorrência prevalente para crianças e adolescentes, exigindo ações imediatas para manter o dente neste público. Desta forma, foram confeccionados panfleto educativo lúdico, vídeo e questionário on-line para cinco escolas de ensino público e privado, de Curitiba-PR e Papanduva-SC, que atingiram aproximadamente 3000 pessoas entre pais, educadores, gestores e alunos. Os participantes do projeto vivenciaram a socialização pelo contato digital com colegas, orientadores e comunidade durante a pandemia; e partilharam conhecimento científico por meio de ferramentas tecnológicas para a prevenção e tratamento dos traumatismos dentais para escolares, graduandos e profissionais da saúde.

Introduction: Permanent tooth avulsions (traumatic extraction; total luxation) are one ofthe most severe permanent tooth injuries and can occur as single injuries or associated with other dental injuries or injuries to the face and jaws region. They are defined as the luxation of teeth from the alveoli with complete rupture of periodontal fibres, or with one part attached to the rootcementum and the other to the alveolar bone, thus compromising the dental pulp, root cementum,and alveolar bone. The high prevalence and numerous negative consequences on the stomatognathic systems they have suggest permanent tooth avulsions should be regarded as an important public health problem. The aim: is to point out the therapeutic possibilities of permanent tooth avulsion that can ensure their longer survival in the oral cavity. Conclusion: The treatment strategy for avulsed permanent teeth is always based on limiting root canal infection and periradicular inflammation, shifting the balance from unfavourable (replacement resorption) to favourable (periodontal) healing. The success of therapy and periodontal healing depend on the duration and conditions of extraoral tooth preservation, the degree of damage to the periodontal ligament, and the condition of the pulp.

Immediate management of avulsion injuries in children

Avulsion is the complete displacement of a tooth from the socket and is considered a dental emergency. The pulp is severed from the neurovascular supply apically and the periodontal ligament is ruptured or torn. Expedient management of avulsion injuries is required, including appropriate telephone advice and emergency management. In the majority of cases, re-implantation and splinting is indicated. The ultimate aim of treatment is for an avulsed tooth to achieve periodontal healing. However, unfavourable healing can lead to pulpal necrosis, inflammatory resorption and replacement resorption of the tooth, leading to premature tooth loss. CPD/Clinical Relevance: Avulsion of a tooth is a dental emergency that requires prompt re-implantation and splinting of the tooth. It is imperative that all dentists are able to provide initial telephone advice and emergency management, including re-implantation and splinting.

Abstract: Replantation was not performed in more than a half of all eligible teeth due to either loss or inadequate/delayed transport, which emphasizes the need for preventive strategies and health education in population.
