Fabrication of bulk piezoelectric and dielectric BaTiO3 ceramics using paste extrusion 3D printing technique

Abstract: A simple and facile method was developed to fabricate functional bulk barium titanate (BaTiO3, BT) ceramics using the paste extrusion 3D printing technique. The BT ceramic is a lead‐free ferroelectric material widely used for various applications in sensors, energy storage, and harvesting. There are several traditional methods (eg, tape casting) to process bulk BT ceramics but they have disadvantages such as difficult handing without shape deformation, demolding, complex geometric shapes, expansive molds, etc.… Show more

“…© 2020 Wiley-VCH GmbH usually used to produce piezoelectric devices with simple geometric shapes and has the advantages of low production costs and no adverse environmental conditions. [97,98] In a previous study, slurry extrusion (Figure 11a) was used to prepare Pb(Nb, Ni)O 3 -Pb(Zr, Ti)O 3 (PNN-PZT) by adjusting the viscosity of the sol, the ratio of the powder to the sol and the sintering conditions. [97] When the ratio of sol to powder was 1:7, green fibers with diameters of ≈300 mm and lengths of greater than 10 m can be extruded (Figure 11e).…”

“…With the use of these sensors, it is possible to measure the vibration and to obtain information about different variables, such as deformation [106] or corrosion [107,108]. The literature also includes several applications with a wide range of frequencies, shape adaptation to structures [109], reduced size [110,111], and reduced phase changes [112], among other characteristics.…”

“…Additive manufacturing of three-dimensional ceramics was explored using the techniques of paste extrusion (PE) [13], fused deposition modeling (FDM) [14], stereolithography (SLA) [15], and binder jetting (BJT) [16]. Parts produced through PE usually have high densities at the expense of lower resolutions.…”
