Fabrication and characterization of stretchable denim fabric using core spun yarn

Abstract: This study aimed to investigate the effect of extensibility on cotton blended polyester-spandex core-spun yarn in the weft direction of 3/1 right-handed Z-twill denim. For the preparation of samples, 100% ring spun cotton yarn of 42 tex (14 s /1 Ne) was used as warp, and 70:30, 30:70, 60:40, and 40:60 cotton-polyester core-spun yarn of 30 tex (20 s /1) was used in the weft direction. Four categories of denim fabric were fabricated by using the air-jet weaving machine. Spandex yarn was used as a core material o… Show more

“…Denim fabric traditionally lacks stretchability and tends to be heavy. However, incorporating a core spun yarn with spandex in the center enhances the fabric's stretch capacity, providing added comfort [ 13 ]. So, stretch denim fabrics are produced from spandex blended yarn for special applications [ 14 ].…”

“…Forecasts predict that the global denim market will reach $95 billion by 2030 (Smith 2023). While historically denim was produced from 100% cotton yarns, many current denim products include blended cotton, polyester, and elastane yarns (Shikha Sarker et al 2016;Gokarneshan et al 2017;Yusuf Daşan 2020;Akter et al 2021), further complicating efforts to recycle or compost this fabric.…”

“…In most cases, core spun yarn promotes stretchability [ 1 ]. Elastane denim has witnessed a significant increase in demand over the past ten years due to its capacity to stretch and recover, as well as its wearability and superior fitness to other commodity textile products [ 2 ]. Elastic filaments like Lycra, Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), Polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT), etc.…”

“…The use of satin weave in women's and children's clothes has increased in recent years. Simultaneously, dobby structured denim and knit denim are also gaining popularity because of their versatile design potential and availability in a range of fabric weights from 4-16 oz/yd 2 . As warp cotton is the most frequently used cellulosic yarn because of its convenience and ease of dyeing.…”
