Extraction and Characterization of Cellulose from Abaca Pseudo Stem (Musa textile)

Abstract: cellulose was extracted from abaca fibre which proceed with different alkalization technique, such as with and without heating treatment. The aim of this research is to extract and characterize the cellulose fibre that obtained from abaca fiber as the alternative of textile fibre. The characterization for the cellulose fibre including FT-IR, SEM, and XRD. The FT-IR spectra showed the heating treatment around 70-80°C can separate the lignin and hemicellulose from the abaca fiber. SEM analysis showed the similar… Show more

“…GO enrichment analysis of the 738 genes commonly up-regulated (overlapping section in Figure 5 A) suggests that transcript orthologs associated with nucleic acid-templated transcription and its regulation (GO:0097659; GO:1903506) were the most frequently enriched biological process (BP; Figure 6 ; also see Figure S7 for graphical representations of BP enrichment). Since abaca varieties are mostly made up of cellulose and hemicellulose [ 48 ], as reviewed in [ 49 ], we identified genes associated with polysaccharide synthesis. Several genes encoding for putative cellulose synthase A (LOCUS_024375-RA; LOCUS_001166-RA) and callose synthase (LOCUS_000059-RA; LOCUS_005801-RA; LOCUS_005802-RA) were found to be significantly enriched and were associated with both the glucan biosynthetic process (BP; GO:0009250) and ß-glucan metabolic process (GO:0051273) (see list of genes categorized in each GO term in Table S7 ).…”

“…The alkali content was negated by adding 120 ml of 10% acetic acid. The fibers were filtered and rinsed until every trace of the acid was removed 77–82 . A simplified view of all the steps involved in the process is provided in Flowchart 17.…”
