Expression of platelet-derived growth factor BB, erythropoietin and erythropoietin receptor in canine and feline osteosarcoma

Abstract: The discovery of expression of the erythropoietin receptor (EPO-R) on neoplastic cells has led to concerns about the safety of treating anaemic cancer patients with EPO. In addition to its endocrine function, the receptor may play a role in tumour progression through an autocrine mechanism. In this study, the expression of EPO, EPO-R and platelet-derived growth factor BB (PDGF-BB) was analysed in five feline and 13 canine osteosarcomas using immunohistochemistry (IHC) and reverse transcription polymerase chain… Show more

“…Three markers differed between COS_1186w and the tumor, although one marker failed to amplify in the tumor sample, but not in the cell line. A complete list of the obtained microsatellite data as first published in [ 35 ] is supplied in Supplementary Tables S2 and S3 . These lists can be helpful in future experiments to exclude cross contaminations.…”

“…To our knowledge, this is the first study of the expression of PDGF-BB in radiotherapy treated EC. PDGF-BB was previously reported to be significantly associated with many human tumors including colorectal cancer [10,11], pancreatic cancer [11][12][13], non-small cell lung cancer [14], renal cancer [15], ovarian cancer [16], liver carcer [17,18] and even osteosarcoma [19]. Current thinking is that overexpression of the PDGF family probably leads to a poor prognosis by modulating both hematopoiesis and tumor angiogenesis [20].…”

“…Keywords: thermal trauma, erythropoietin, lipid peroxidation products. Выбор концентрации ЭПО обусловлен его средним содержанием в сыворотке крови в физиологических условиях, а также многократным увеличением концентрации ЭПО в крови при патологии, например при гипоксии различного генеза, что предполагает реализацию эффектов ЭПО на клетки в соответствующих концентрациях -100, 1000 и 10 000% физиологического уровня [5,10].…”
