Exploring the effect of selenium forms on final body weight, slaughtercharacteristics and tissue selenium concentration in Aseel cockerels

Abstract: A study to investigate the influence of selenium on final body weight and slaughter traits of Aseel was conducted. Threeweeks-old 120 cockerels from Lakha, Mushki, Peshaweri and Mianwali varieties of Aseel were randomly selected and distributed into four groups, 30 cockerels each, subdivided into 3 treatment groups A, B (experimental groups), and C (control group) with 10 cockerels in each treatment. Birds were assigned three experimental diets. The diet for the birds of group A incorporated 0.3 mg/kg Se-enric… Show more

“…Also, acidification of soil significantly reduces the availability of selenium for plants. Instead of the inorganic form of selenium, scientists pointed out that organic form of selenium produced in form of selenized yeast shall be introduced as an animal feed supplement [17,113,114]. Recently, biofortification of plants with selenium has been carried out in arable crop production in order to increase the availability of selenium to plants, and to make them further available as a feed for animals, to consequently enrich final animal products with selenium [115,116].…”

“…In general, the supplementation with biocomplexed minerals in broiler diets may cause changes in tissue metabolism, especially in muscle tissue (Zia et al, 2017). Chromium is an active component of glucose tolerance factor (GTF) and, therefore, is responsible for promoting greater insulin-binding to cell receptors, thereby increasing the sensitivity of target cells and enhancing insulin action (Huang et al, 2016).…”

“…Nutrition is one of the main factors for the success of any segment of animal production, being fundamental to obtain high production indices. In this context, mineral supplementation, which has been used in broiler farming for promoting improvements both in performance and the main carcass characteristics (Zia et al, 2017) stands out.…”

“…As shown in Table 2, some trace elements (vitamin C, vitamin E and selenium, polyphenols, etc.) which play biological functions and specially antioxidant defence could help to combat heat stress in broilers (Attia et al, 2010;Khan et al, 2012;Waseem et al, 2016). Shakeri et al (2020) observed that through synergistic effects, the use of combination of vitamin C, vitamin E and selenium is highly recommended than their individual use.…”
