Explaining Sex Differences in Motorcyclist Riding Behavior: An Application of Multi-Group Structural Equation Modeling

Abstract: Road accidents are caused by humans, vehicles, and road environments. Human attitudes affect behavioral changes and can lead to unsafe riding behavior. The sex of an individual is a key factor that affects their riding behavior. We aimed to use structural equation modeling (SEM) by analyzing the multi-group SEM between men and women and applying the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and the locus of control (LC) theory. The data used in the research were collected from all over Thailand, consisting of 1516 moto… Show more

“…This section provides an overview of previous studies’ use of software. The SPSS is the majorly utilised software in the motorcycle driver behaviour studies considered for data analysis [ 10 , 58 , 79 , 236 ]. MATLAB is the next most applied software [ 62 , 80 , 114 , 139 , 146 ] followed by test software or testing procedures [ 94 , 121 , 131 , 148 , 156 , 186 ], Microsoft Excel [ 181 ], and Python [ 190 ].…”

“…This section involves articles related to the best use of observations to determine the severity of traffic crashes, hazards, road accident consequences, and riding behaviour. Other articles focused on using a camera to observe and record factors that cause motorcycle accidents and determine motorcycle driver behaviours [ 6 , 77 , 78 , 79 , 80 , 81 , 82 , 83 ]. One study focused on the use of MetroCount MC-5600 data loggers for the collection of data associated with the driving of vehicles far from or near minor roads [ 84 ].…”

“…Further, the study of road safety is related to psychological or health behaviors. Several studies have examined drivers’ health and risk behaviors by applying related theories; for example, the health belief model [ 18 , 19 ] and locus of control [ 20 ]. However, these concepts are rarely used in investigating drivers’ valuation of road accidents.…”
