Experimental study on the static mechanical properties of a milled mixture of sugar cane

Abstract: The mechanical properties of a milled mixture of sugar cane are the basis for the establishment of a milled mixture mechanical model and the constitutive relation under different loading conditions. In this article, the static mechanical properties of the milled mixture were revealed using uniaxial confined compression, uniaxial loading‐unloading, and consolidated‐drained triaxial and direct shear tests. Axial stress is a cubic polynomial relating to the compression ratio. The Young's modulus is proportional t… Show more

“…The loading process started with 2.275 kg of prepared cane and a speed of 0.0083 m/s (500 mm/min) until the compression ratio of the milled mixture reached 3.5. The cane variety (the 20th Gui‐tang, Nanning Sugar Company, Ltd.) and container structures for the tests were the same as those of Duan et al (). The dynamic compression tests of the milled mixture of sugar cane took 16.2 s.…”

“…The milled mixture undergoes elastic–plastic coupling during the sugarcane milling process, so its constitutive model should be able to accurately describe the elastic and plastic deformation. The elastic behavior of milled mixture could be described by isotropic elastic materials considering the elastic–plastic coupling, and elastic parameters (Poisson's ratio (v) and Young's modulus (E)) are related to void ratio (Duan et al, 2018). Muir Wood (1992) used the critical state model to describe the mechanical behavior of saturated soil, and saturated soils exhibit elastic and plastic behavior, large strains and compressive behaviors at yield.…”
