Experimental Study of Ablative Materials by Oxyacetylene Flame Flow System

Abstract: A missile motor has precision design and complicated components, responsible to propel the missile forward to reach an expected range. The motor must be protected by the inhibitor, which limits the high temperature from the burning of propellant to the generator to ensure safety of shell. The solid rocket propellant grain burns in the parallel layer according to a certain rule. Recently, NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) 、 EPDM(Ethylene-Propylene-Diene Monomer), Silicon Rubber and Polyisoprene are usually applied… Show more

“…6 shows a schematic of the oxyacetylene ablation tester and specimen under the test. This kind of test is widely used for the characterization of the ablation resistance of materials [11][12][13]. An Instron 8801 universal testing machine was used to perform the tensile tests in accordance with ASTM D638 standard.…”

“…OFT gives the insight of ablation rate and ablative effectiveness. The oxyacetylene flame test is simple, cost-effective, and useful to estimate the thermal processes of ablative materials [10][11]. Whereas TGA of materials allow us to calculate hypothetically the time required for degradation of materials at desired temperature which leads to calculate kinetic parameters.…”
