Experimental Demonstration of the Induction Synchrotron

Abstract: We report an experimental demonstration of the induction synchrotron, the concept of which has been proposed as a future accelerator for the second generation of neutrino factory or hadron collider. The induction synchrotron supports a superbunch and a superbunch permits more charge to be accelerated while observing the constraints of the transverse space-charge limit. By using a newly developed induction acceleration system instead of radio-wave acceleration devices, a single proton bunch injected from the 50… Show more

“…Pulsed-power development for point-spot-like X-ray source generated by X-pinch technique [26] For observing interior of dense plasmas generated by the intense ion beams or the pulsed-power discharges [27][28][29][30][31][32][33], we required intense, point-spot like X-ray source, because of short lifetime, small size and high density of those plasmas. One of the intense, point-spot like X-ray sources is X-pinch technique [34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41].…”

“…For a not so high emittance ratio, like 10 or so, this mismatch, probably can be ether neglected or compensated on average only. To inject into a truly space charge self-consistent state [8], allowing emittance ratio $20 or higher, the inductive synchrotron can be used [9]. The application of circular modes for the LHC complex definitely requires circular optics for the booster and PS.…”

“…The induction synchrotron, which was developed at KEK in 2000 [1], functions as a slow-cycling synchrotron and uses the former KEK 12 GeV proton synchrotron ring [5]. The induction acceleration system can cover an extremely wide range in the revolution frequency; thus, we call the present acceleration method wideband induction acceleration.…”

“…In Section 3, the acceleration scheme employed in the experiments is introduced. It is a fully programmable system that is completely different from the feedback acceleration system in the 2006 slow cycling experiment [5]. Another important process in the tuning procedures for wideband acceleration is discussed in Section 4.…”
